Astrium heading European programme for International Space Station operations

Bremen - The hatch opening of Columbus marks the beginning of its operation and Europe’s use of the International Space Station. Astrium is heading an industry consortium on behalf of the European Space Agency (ESA) as part of the Exploitation Programme. The consortium is responsible for the operation and use of the ISS.

Space Shuttle Atlantis Launches Columbus into Space

Cape Canaveral - Europe’s space laboratory Columbus is in space: The US space shuttle Atlantis was successfully launched on Thursday evening (February 7th, 2007, 20.45 CET) from Cape Canaveral, Florida, to carry the Columbus laboratory to the International Space Station ISS. The module – built by Astrium for the European Space Agency ESA – is scheduled to arrive at the ISS on Saturday, February 9th.
