Five AS 365 N3 Dauphins for the Greek marchant navy

Marignane, 03 April 2003

The contract signed by Eurocopter, and the Greek MoD/DGA (General Delegation for Armaments), in conjunction with the Greek Merchant Navy Ministry, became effectives at the end of March 2003. Worth close to 47 million euros, the contract covers the supply of five AS 365 N3 Dauphin 2 helicopters (plus 1 option).
The entry in service of the five AS 365 N3 Dauphin 2s is set for the 2004 Olympic Games. The helicopters will perform day and night surveillance missions for the Harbor Police of the Merchant Navy Ministry. For these duties, they will be fitted with radar, infrared cameras, loud speakers and another equipment.

The AS 365 N3 is an uprated twin-engine helicopter from the Dauphin family. In the metric ton class with two Turbomeca Arriel 2C engines, it meets the most stringent safety requirements and performs a wide array of missions.

With such a powerplant, the N3 version can take off at maximum weight out of the ground effect at + 50°c. Likewise, it can perform Category A takeoffs at sea level at + 40° C carrying a full load.

For the record, the Greek Merchant Navy had already ordered 4 Super Puma AS 332 C1 helicopters in 1998 for Search And Rescue (SAR) duties. This was followed in October 2002 by another contract for 4 Super Puma AS 332 C1s for SAR and Combat SAR missions. The Greek Air Force operates these helicopters.
