Dubai - Eurocopter, a division of EADS and the world's leading helicopter manufacturer with a strong and long lasting presence in the Middle East region, will participate at the 2009 Dubai Airshow with two of its state-of the-art helicopters: the TIGER, the most modern combat helicopter will be performing daily flight presentations and a full scale mock-up of the EC175 in offshore configuration will be displayed on the EADS stand. The EC175, the latest helicopter of the Eurocopter civil range, is due to fly for the first time before the end of the year. Both aircraft are presented for the first time to the public in the Middle East.

Astrium completes major milestone on the James Webb Space Telescope

Ottobrunn - Astrium has successfully completed the Engineering Test Unit (ETU) for the Near Infrared Spectrograph (NIRSpec). NIRSpec will be integrated in the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) and will peer into the origins of our Universe. NIRSpec is a 100 million euros spectrometer, which is being developed by Astrium in Germany, capable of detecting the faintest radiation from the furthest galaxies. The completion of the ETU marks an important milestone for the JWST, and it will shortly be shipped to the United States where it will undergo testing by NASA.

Autoclave for production of the new Airbus A350 XWB arrives at Premium AEROTEC’s plant in Nordenham

Nordenham - Premium AEROTEC in Nordenham today took delivery of the 27 meter long autoclave, eight meters high in diameter, for production of the forward fuselage sections for the new Airbus A350 XWB. Once installed in the A350 hall currently under construction, the autoclave’s first cure cycle is planned for the turn of the year. It is expected to be fully available for production from the spring of 2010. Premium AEROTEC is the largest aerostrucures supplier for the new Airbus A350 XWB. The company between 2009 and 2011 is investing some 360 million Euros for the production infrastructures of this new aircraft.

Cape Canaveral - The US space shuttle Discovery is set to carry three new research facilities to the International Space Station (ISS) allowing more on board science to take place. The research facilities were built under the industrial leadership of Europe’s largest space company Astrium. The new facilities are the Materials Science Laboratory (MSL), Declic, which will research fluid physics and the second unit of the space freezer Melfi. With the help of this new equipment, scientists will be able to investigate processes which may lead to the development of new alloys, semiconductors and methods.

Bremen - Astrium, Europe’s leading space company, is conducting a study for a future European Transport System, ARV (Advanced Re-entry Vehicle), on behalf of the European Space Agency (ESA). Eurocopter signs contract to retrofit 26 CH53 Bundeswehr helicopters for personnel recovery missions

Le Bourget - On June 18th, Eurocopter Deutschland GmbH and the German Federal Agency for Defense Technology and Procurement (BWB) signed a contract at the Paris Air Show to retrofit one prototype followed by a further 25 of the German Army’s CH53 GS/GE transport helicopters with the capability to perform personnel recovery missions. The contract is worth around 24.9 million euros, with a large part going to the medium-sized German equipment industry. The first retrofitted helicopter is scheduled for delivery in early 2010.

RTE contributes to the economic stimulus plan and renews part of its helicopter fleet

Le Bourget - At the centenary celebrations of the Paris International Air Show at Le Bourget, and in the presence of Patrick Devedjian, the Minister responsible for France's Economic Stimulus Plan, Philippe Harache, Senior Executive Vice-President of Eurocopter, and Dominique Maillard, Chairman of the RTE Management Board, the public electricity transmission system operator today signed a contract worth €9m. By signing up to replace part of its fleet from this year, RTE is extending its commitment under the Economic Stimulus Plan. The European helicopter manufacturer Eurocopter, a division of the EADS Group, will supply RTE with a total of four aircraft: three single-engine "Ecureuils" (two B2s and one B3s) and one twin-turbine EC135. These helicopters will all be equipped with Turbomeca (Safran Group) engines.

Plesetsk/Friedrichshafen - The European research satellite GOCE is scheduled for lift-off on March 16, 2009. It will be launched from the Plesetsk Cosmodrome in Northern Russia (approx. 800 km north of Moscow) on board a Rockot vehicle provided by Eurockot Launch Services under a contract with the European Space Agency. The Gravity-Field and Steady-State Ocean Circulation Explorer (GOCE) will ‘surf’ the Earth’s gravitational field and investigate the interior of the planet from an altitude of about 250 kilometres.

Paris - Eurocopter, the world’s leading helicopter manufacturer, fully met its 2008 objectives for helicopter sales and deliveries and increased its turnover by 7.5 %. In 2008, Eurocopter once again secured its position as the world's No. 1 manufacturer of civil and parapublic helicopters with a total of 588 helicopter deliveries for new military and civil helicopters. This figure constitutes a production ramp-up of 20% percent as compared to 2007 and reinforced its position as a major branded business division within EADS, counting for a consolidated turnover of 4.5 billion Euros. Order bookings, still showing strong demand for new helicopter models and services, amounted to 4.9 billion Euros. This included 715 new aircraft.
