Astrium-built BADR-4 satellite ready for launch

Paris - Launch preparation is well underway in Baikonur, Kazakhstan, for the launch of BADR-4, a Eurostar E2000+ satellite built by Astrium for the Arab Satellite Communications Organization (ARABSAT). The Proton Breeze M vehicle of International Launch Services (ILS) is scheduled for lift off on 8 November at 20:01 GMT (2:01 a.m. on 9 November Baikonur time).

EUTELSAT awards contract to deliver HOT BIRD™ 10 broadcast satellite to Astrium

Paris - Eutelsat Communications (Euronext Paris: ETL) today announced that Astrium will build the HOT BIRD™ 10 broadcast satellite which will be launched in first quarter 2009 and positioned at the Group’s 13 degrees East location. Following HOT BIRD™ 8 and 9, it is the third high-power broadcast satellite based on Astrium’s Eurostar E3000 platform that will be located at Eutelsat’s premium video neighbourhood for cable and satellite broadcasting.

15 Years ERS-1 – Environmental Research with EADS SPACE

Friedrichshafen - Meteorologists, climate researchers and weathermen are keeping a close eye on Baikonur as final preparations are made for the launch of the polar-orbiting weather satellite MetOp. Developed and built for the European Space Agency, ESA, under the leadership of Europe's leading space company EADS SPACE, MetOp is scheduled for launch on 17 July. As well as the date for the launch, July 17 is also an important anniversary - because on 17 July 1991, Europe achieved a successful debut in the field of radar-based Earth and environmental observation with the launch of the ERS-1 satellite.

First MetOp ready for launch

Baikonur/Friedrichshafen - MetOp is scheduled for launch by Starsem on the 17th of July, using a Soyuz rocket. EADS SPACE is the satellite prime contractor and responsible for three of the eleven instruments on board of the spacecraft.

German Armed Forces will receive secure communications network with two dedicated satellites

Koblenz - MilSat Services GmbH, a company set up by EADS SPACE Services and ND SatCom, will provide the German Bundeswehr's satellite communications system SatcomBW Step 2. The Federal Office for Information Management and Information Technology of the Bundeswehr (IT-AmtBw) and MilSat Services signed a contract in Koblenz, Germany on Wednesday. The contract will be valid after the German budget 2006 will have been enacted.

EADS Astrium awarded third satellite contract by ARABSAT

Riad - EADS Astrium and ARABSAT, the communications satellite operator based in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, have signed a contract for the construction of the BADR-6 (‘Full Moon’) satellite. Scheduled to enter service in 2008, BADR-6 will provide communications services over a wide area encompassing the entire Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, from Morocco to the Gulf, and a large part of sub-Saharan Africa. It is the fifth communications satellite contract awarded to EADS Astrium since the beginning of 2006.

EADS Astrium develops its links with the Brazilian space industry

Brazilia - EADS Astrium has purchased a 42% stake in the Brazilian company Equatorial Sistemas. This partnership will strengthen the presence of EADS Astrium in Brazil by enabling it to become a privileged partner in Brazilian space programmes in particular those from the Brazilian Space Agency (AEB) and its industrial part the Brazilian National Institute for Space Research (INPE).

TanDEM-X : DLR and EADS Astrium release new Satellite Mission

Berlin/Friedrichshafen - The German Space Agency DLR on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology and Europe´s leading satellite manufacturer EADS Astrium today announced at the ILA-Airshow in Berlin its intention to build a new satellite mission called TanDEM-X. Following the official kick-off, development and manufacturing of the new German radar-satellite will now start at EADS Astrium´s Friedrichshafen plant. TanDEM-X is scheduled for launch in 2009. Together with the almost identical radar satellite TerraSAR-X which is to be launched in autumn this year, it will form a high-precision radar interferometer.

EADS Astrium awarded €317 million Gaia spacecraft contract by ESA to map one billion stars

Paris - EADS Astrium has signed a contract with the European Space Agency (ESA) to develop and build the satellite for the Global Astrometric Interferometer for Astrophysics (Gaia) mission. Gaia will create an extraordinarily precise 3-D map of the Galaxy, mapping and recording more than one billion stars over a five year period. The satellite, worth €317 million, is due to be launched in 2011.

First MetOp satellite ready to leave for Baikonour

Toulouse/Friedrichshafen/Darmstadt - Final preparation of the first Metop satellite is on-track at EADS Astrium Toulouse, in readiness for its scheduled launch by Starsem 30 June, using a Soyuz rocket from the Baïkonur Cosmodrome, Kazakhstan. EADS Astrium is the satellite prime contractor and responsible for three of the twelve instruments on board of the spacecraft.

Moon-based radiotelescope planned

Leiden - EADS SPACE Transportation and the Netherlands Foundation for Astronomy ASTRON/LOFAR signed a memorandum of understanding on Thursday in Leiden, Netherlands. The companies want to test the feasibility of a long wave radio telescope on the moon. A Dutch and German preliminary study should be the first phase. The program is then likely to be expanded in a second phase to include other European participants through ESA. EADS SPACE and ASTRON are therefore contributing to a European moon program.

Paris - EADS Astrium has signed a contract with the Algerian National Space Technology Centre (CNTS) for the development of the ALSAT-2 system, which consists of two optical observation satellites.
