Bangkok Airways takes delivery of an ATR 72-500

Thailand-based Bangkok Airways, has taken delivery of its eighth ATR 72-500, in Toulouse, leased from AIR.

Aircraft International Renting Ltd (AIR) signed a contract to purchase an ATR 72-500 aircraft for a lease to be arranged by TAT Leasing. With this new order, the Irish regional aircraft operating lessor will increase its total fleet to 20 ATRs, 6 of which are ATR 72-500 aircraft. AIR’s fleet is mainly operated in Europe and Asia.

This contract confirms AIR’s confidence in the market and the residual value potential of the ATR aircraft family.

This new aircraft, equipped with the reinforced cockpit door, has been christened « Nangyuan» which is the name of a small beautiful island in Thailand. It will be put into service on the airline’s domestic network as well as on international routes to Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam.

Bangkok Airways which started its ATR operations in 1994 with an ATR leased from AIR, currently operates a total ATR fleet of 9 ATR 72s on a network of thirteen destinations in five countries.

In the Asian Pacific area, 97 ATRs are currently operated by 22 airlines.

Toulouse, Southern France-based regional aircraft manufacturer Avions de Transport Régional (ATR) is the world leader in the 50 to 70-seat turboprop market. ATR is an equal partnership between Alenia Aeronautica (Finmeccanica Group) and EADS (European Aeronautic Defence and Space Company).
