Marignane/Donauwörth - Der Verteidigungs- und Haushaltausschuss des Bundestags hat die bislang umfangreichste Modernisierung der deutschen CH-53 Transporthubschrauberflotte beschlossen und genehmigt. Das Bundesamt für Wehrtechnik und Beschaffung (BWB) hat Eurocopter im Rahmen des Programms „Sicherstellung der Einsatzbereitschaft“ (SDE) mit der Umrüstung von insgesamt 82 schweren Transporthubschraubern des Typs CH-53 beauftragt, die bis zum Jahr 2012 abgeschlossen sein soll und einer Investitionssumme von 176,6 Millionen Euro entspricht. Davon wurden in einer ersten Stufe 96,2 Millionen Euro beauftragt.

The highly advanced COMS satellite has three payloads; one for meteorology, one for ocean observation and one for communications. COMS will provide meteorology data to end-users around the globe, oceanography data for the Korean peninsula and experimental communications services in Ka-band, all from its orbital locations 116º and 138° East. COMS is the third Earth observation spacecraft designed and manufactured for the Asia-Pacific region by EADS Astrium confirming the company’s leading position in the market.

THE LAUNCHER ARIANE 5 ECA

Le Bourget - The launcher Ariane 5 ECA represents a major milestone for the European space industry. The new generation launcher was developed to keep pace with trends in the commercial launch market, especially larger and heavier satellites, and to satisfy governmental needs. Equipped with the Vulcain 2 main engine and with the new cryogenic upper stage ESC-A the launcher is capable of boosting up to 10 tonnes into geostationnary transfer orbit (GTO) for a single or dual launch (two satellites at once). Using a reignitable storable propellant upper stage it can also carry the ATV towards the International Space Station into low Earth orbit (LEO). The increased-performance Ariane 5 ECA is now in full commercial service following the successful flight 164 on February 12th, 2005. The next ECA flight, which is both the last qualification and first commercial flight, will take place in summer this year.
