Double success for TETRAPOL during the NATO summit in Prague (Czech Republic) and US President's visit to Romania

PEGAS, the nation-wide digital radio communication system based on TETRAPOL technology, fulfilled the Security Forces expectations during the NATO Summit in Prague, as did the Romanian Phoenix network during George W. Bush's visit to Bucharest.

Prague/Bucharest, 29  November  2002

The PEGAS radio communication system provided by EADS TELECOM was used by the Czech forces in charge of the security for the Heads of State and governments of 46 countries, including those of 19 NATO member countries.

Czech authorities adopted strong security measures for the summit, appropriate to the first large scale international event in the wake of the tragedy caused by terrorist attacks in America during September of last year. TETRAPOL technology enabled secured and secret communication for Czech security forces deployed in Prague during this event. 12,000 Czech Police officers, fire brigades and units of the Czech Army were served without any failures.

Foreign delegations, having decided to test other technology during the summit, witnessed the unquestionable advantages of TETRAPOL in comparison to the performance provided by these other technologies.

In the course of the summit more than 7,000 terminals were deployed on the Prague network providing direct links with the Prague police command centre, the fixed-line telephone network of the Czech Interior and Defence Ministry, and the helicopters operating above the Czech metropolis during the summit.

In a particularly loaded environment, characterised by a high number of users deployed in a relatively small area in the city centre where the summit was held, the PEGAS communication system remained quite stable.

National coverage with the PEGAS network commenced in 1999. After completion the system will be used by all departments of the Czech Integrated rescue system (Police, fire brigades, medical rescue teams etc.) The Prague network has been operational since summer 2000, shortly before the IMF/WB meeting in Prague, during which the network surpassed expectations.

Mr. Jiří Kolář, Czech Police President, expressed his satisfaction: "The Czech Police officers have relied on the benefits of a fully secure and operational network. The PEGAS system demonstrated its resistance against intruding of extraneous subjects and against deliberate external sources of jamming. Functional and without problems was also communication with helicopters crews."

Following on from the NATO Summit in Prague, during President Bush's visit to Bucharest, the TETRAPOL Phoenix network successfully supported the President’s Protection Service with the deployment of several thousand radio terminals giving complete satisfaction to STS, the Special Telecommunications Services, Romania’s state telecommunication operator.

Once more, TETRAPOL technology the only radio communication solution deployed at great scale, has proven its reliability and operative efficiency at international events of paramount importance that require HIGH SECURITY.

At present, 64 networks are deployed or under construction in 30 countries world-wide using a technology based on the TETRAPOL standard, approved by the ITU (International Telecommunications Union) and the Police Co-operation Group (formerly the Schengen Group). Many of these networks cover entire nations giving full satisfaction to their users: RUBIS (Gendarmerie Nationale) and ACROPOL (Police Nationale) in France, SIRDEE in Spain, Police Forces in Singapore, Polycom in Switzerland, SITNO in Slovakia, PHOENIX in Romania and IRIS in Mexico.

Presently, total TETRAPOL network coverage is over 1.4 million square kilometres – an area three times larger than France – serving some 420,000 users. Once the deployment operations now underway are complete, TETRAPOL will serve a million users with coverage of 4 million square kilometres.
