ATR at Zhuhai airshow

Toulouse, 28  October  2004

On the occasion of the Airshow China, Zhuhai, on November 1-7, 2004, Avions de Transport Régional (ATR) will be present at both Alenia Aeronautica (n°1C3/2) and EADS (n°1C2/1-2) exhibit stands.

Since the beginning of the programme, ATR has developed and maintained a presence and level of co-operation with Chinese industry.

  • As of 1985, Aerospatiale and XAC (Xian Aircraft Company) signed an industrial co-operation agreement for the manufacturing of ATR 42 external wing box.
  • This activity was increased in the course of 1997, when a second industrial co-operation agreement was signed, this time with Alenia, for the manufacturing of section 16 of the ATR 72.

ATR opened an office in Beijing last year, in order to further strengthen ties with Chinese industry, to grow market opportunities in the region and to have a permanent presence in this important market. Patrick Devaux heads this office which also covers Mongolia, Korea and Japan.

ATR is already well established in the Asia Pacific area with a support and marketing office in Singapore and a Training centre in Bangkok, with two full flight simulators (FFS). ATR also developed a strong presence in this area with 91 aircraft currently operated by 20 airlines. Urumqi-based Xinjiang Airlines, northwest China, is operating 5 ATR 72-500 delivered between 1997 and 1998.

ATR has sold 688 aircraft (381 ATR 42 and 307 ATR 72) since the beginning of the programme.

France, Toulouse-based ATR is the world leader in the 50 to 70-seat turboprop market. ATR is an equal partnership between Alenia Aeronautica (Finmeccanica group) and EADS (European Aeronautic Defence and Space Company).
