ATR obtains DOA (Design Organisation Approval)Toulouse, 27 January 2003 The European consortium ATR (Avions de Transport Régional) has obtained the Design Organisation Approval (DOA) from the French civil aviation authorities DGAC (Direction Générale de l'Aviation Civile) acting on behalf of the JAA (Joint Aviation Authorities) at the end of December 2002, 10 months after application was made. The DOA is a JAR 21 subpart JA approval qualifying the design work of an aircraft manufacturer and is a recognition of the quality of its engineering capabilities. This new certification will further improve ATR's efficiency in terms of response time towards customers. Many of the engineering activities will , under the terms of this approval, be handled by ATR without the need to seek approval from the DGAC. Mr. Pierre BERNARD, Head of Design Organisation Approvals, from the DGAC declared: "ATR, with the successful outcome of its DOA application, has shown the high level of quality and professionalism of its new engineering organisation and procedures." Mr. Luigi LOMBARDI, Senior Vice President Operations of ATR said: "Getting the DOA today is an additional illustration of the success of ATR's integration put in place in June 2001. It consolidates our position as a key player amongst the aerospace manufacturers. " In order to obtain the DOA, ATR presented all its engineering procedures to the DGAC in a manual called the DOM (Design Organisation Manual). A series of audits were carried out by the DGAC in conjunction with the JAA in order to analyse and validate that ATR's Engineering organisation is compliant with the JAR 21 subpart JA's prevailing requirements. To date ATR has produced and delivered 652 aircraft. More than 100 airlines in 60 countries operate the ATR. ATR is an equal partnership on the regional aircraft market between the Italian Alenia Aeronautica and EADS (European Aeronautics Defence and Space company).
