Farnborough, 18 July 2000
Just a fortnight after the founding date of the European Aeronautic Defence and Space Company (EADS), the new concern will be presenting itself to the general public at the Farnborough International 2000 air show, which is to be held near London from 24 to 30 July. The EADS stand at Farnborough has a surface area of 2,000 m³, which means that the company has had to hire a complete hall. At the event, EADS will be showing its full range of products. In addition to a display of 1:20 to 1:100 scale models of the Airbus family including the A3XX megaliner, the future Airbus flagship, the exhibits will present the latest developments in the military aircraft field, such as Eurofighter and the new A400M which completes our family of military transport aircraft. The latest developments C-212-400, CN-235-300 and the new C-295 will also be displayed. Cutting edge technology will also be shown by the other EADS business areas of aeronautics, defence and space. These will be displaying numerous models of their in-novative products, such as the Eurocpter EC 135, Tiger or NH90 helicopters, the ATR 72-500 regional turboprop, the Exocet AM 39 and Polyphem guided missiles, the International Space Station ISS, the Eurostar 3000 communications satellite, the satellite navigation program Gallileo and the Ariane 5 launcher. EADS has started off with a series of remarkable successes, from which all its divisions will profit. The boom in orders for Airbus is continuing. This year alone, more than 230 aircraft of this type had been ordered by the end of June. The A3XX megaliner is now being officially offered to potential buyers. Nine customers have already confirmed that they intend to place orders for this new wide-body aircraft. Seven European states including the EADS nations France, Germany and Spain have declared that they will procure the modern transport aircraft A400M. The British government has decided in favour of arming Eurofighter with the Meteor guided missile and has thus paved the way for this European fighter aircraft to be equipped with European armament. The governments of France and Germany, Italy and the Netherlands recently ordered the first batch of NH90 helicopters for their armed forces. The negotiations between EADS and the Greek government on the formulation of an agreement for the procurement of 60 Eurofighter aircraft are making good progress. EADS has also been successful with its Russian partners RSK MiG and Rozvoorouzhenie in offering to modernise the MiG-29 aircraft of central and east European states. The contract negotiations with Hungary are about to be completed and a tender has been presented in Bulgaria. During the air show, Astrium, the british-german-french space company in which EADS holds a 75 percent stake, expects to announce that the third module has successfully docked onto the International Space Station. Astrium supplied the main computer for this Russian module. Since the beginning of this year, three of the world's most important international organisations Intelsat, Inmarsat and Eutelsat have between them ordered six communication satellites, five of them being the new high power Eurostar 3000. The Defence and Civil Systems division of EADS has further strengthened its ties with the US American company Northrop Grumman and will be announcing some more results of this cooperation. On 10th July EADS has arisen from the merger between Aerospatiale Matra S. A. (Paris), Construcciones Aeronáuticas S. A. (CASA, Madrid) and DaimlerChrysler Aerospace AG (Dasa, Munich). With pro forma revenues of more than 22.5 billion Euro (1999), EADS is the third largest aerospace company in the world. The company has approximately 87,000 employees working at 90 sites in Germany, France and Spain. EADS is an N.V. according to Dutch company law.
