EADS welcomes Singapore Airlines' decision for the A3XX

Amsterdam, 29  September  2000

"The order for up to 25 A3XX's from Singapore Airlines (SIA) is not only a major success for Airbus and the A3XX programme. It is above all a further very impressive proof of the fact that there is a market for the new large aircraft", explained the Co-Chief Executive Officers of the EADS Aeronautic Defence and Space Company, Philippe Camus and Rainer Hertrich.

EADS see this as confirmation of their market forecasts as well as of their business planning. In a comment published on Friday on the signature of the contract, disclosed previously by Airbus Industrie and SIA, the two Co-CEOs assess the partnership between Singapore Airlines and Airbus for the A3XX "as a clear signal that the A3XX will be a market success. We have always predicted that the A3XX is the aircraft the market wants in this size category."

The EADS company holds 80 per cent in Airbus Industrie. Now that 32 firm orders have already been acquired from four customers (Emirates Airlines, Air France, ILFC and SIA), the programme, according to Camus and Hertrich, "is totally on schedule. We reckon that the final decision for building the A3XX can be taken near yearend."
