Simulation is an aid in the development of both the weapon system itself and of the man-machine interface. It can also be used for training purposes. and additionally proves to be an ideal means of visualizing the potential of an aircraft. On the basis of a previously entered data set, an aircraft's flight behaviour can be reproduced down to fine detail.
For this purpose, EADS Military Air Systems has state-of-the-art facilities such as dome simulators at its disposal. The Mako Cockpit Demonstrator (MCD) represents an advanced approach to simulation. The cockpits can be deployed in the student pilot/instructor configuration as an aircraft, but can also be split into two flight simulators, which are then flown in the same environment. The forward cockpit may be seen as an example of a concept that enables low-cost development and training simulation. The rear cockpit of the MCD is based on virtual reality (VR). VR in an interactive cockpit offers new possibilities in the development of aircraft, systems and the man-machine interface.
