Datalink (MIDS)

The Multi-function Information Distribution System (MIDS) is a highly advanced digital data transmission system that is embedded in an information network.

The task of the standardized information network (NATO Standard Link 16) is to enable the exchange of tactical information – e.g. flight paths, targets, position, status and commands – between different military units or platforms during joint or combined NATO missions. Information can be exchanged between the network users about the status of sensors and weapon systems. This is fed directly into MIDS and is then displayed in a comprehensive presentation of the situation. MIDS can also be operated by voice input. Via a datalink, the pilot can verbally give tactical instructions for other aircraft.
