SESAME: Air Traffic Alliance and partners enter into final negotiation for the Definition Phase
Le Bourget, 14 de Junio de 2005
Today, the Air Traffic Alliance and its 28 consortium partners announced during the Paris Airshow that following a joint announcement by the European Commission and EUROCONTROL, they were now entering into the contract negotiations for the launch of the definition phase for a Single European Single Sky Implementation Programme (SESAME).
Following a press conference held by Jacques Barrot, Vice President of the European Commission and Victor Aguado, Director General of EUROCONTROL, highlighting the importance of SESAME as the operational complement to the Single European Sky Legislation, the SESAME Consortium presented its 29 members. It consists of a broad range of players from the European air transport industry, bringing together airspace users, airports, Air Navigation Services Providers and supply industry, and thus is fully representative in terms of expertise and competencies.
“The SESAME Consortium represents a strong and unique combination of key players in the air transport value chain,“ said Olaf Dlugi, Chairman of the SESAME Executive Committee. “We have set up this integrated consortium over the past months, have established a true spirit of cooperation amongst the partners, and now we are looking forward to start working as soon as the contract negotiations have been finalized.”
In addition to the 29 partners forming the core of the Consortium, a network of project associates has been set up including amongst others, military representatives, professional associations of controllers and pilots, Regulatory and Certification Authorities, Research Centers, and US industry. They will provide their technical expertise and support to the buy-in process towards European and non-European air transport stakeholders.
SESAME has been recognized by the political, institutional and operational air transport community as the most appropriate means to focus and mobilize the required investment in support of the benefits achievable through the operational implementation of the Single European Sky legislation. The SESAME Definition Phase is a first step towards the kick-off of the actual SESAME implementation phase and will, over a two years period, define and validate the actions to be launched, and their associated committed planning, for securing a safe and efficient high-performance air transport system by 2020.
