Premium AEROTEC is fully operational

02  January  2009

Premium AEROTEC GmbH started its operations with legal effect on 1 January, thereby finalizing the carve-out process of the former Airbus sites in Nordenham and Varel and the former EADS site in Augsburg within the expected time frame.

The business activities of the three sites have now been transferred to the new company. Although Premium AEROTEC is a wholly owned subsidiary of EADS, it manages its operations as an independently operated company headquartered in Augsburg. Premium AEROTEC has a workforce of more than 6,000 employees and expects to achieve revenues of around € 1 billion in 2009.

The core business of Premium AEROTEC will focus on the design and manufacturing of metal and CFRP aerostructures and the related manufacturing systems. The company has set itself the target to be the leading supplier for both commercial and military aerostructures within the next few years. To enhance composite technologies in first order, and also for further technological development, EADS will invest around € 500 million in the Premium AEROTEC sites in 2009–2011.

“Becoming fully operational – that’s a historical day for our new company. Based on new technologies and the skills of our employees, we will enter an expansion phase to create a globally acting, continuously growing company specialising in structural parts and components for both commercial and military aircraft,“ said Hans Lonsinger, CEO of Premium AEROTEC.

“The foundation of Premium AEROTEC underlines EADS’ ability to achieve decisive steps in focusing on core business, whilst giving a clear commitment and a solid perspective to the employees in Augsburg, Nordenham and Varel. In a joint effort in our Group, we have created with Premium AEROTEC in Germany and AEROLIA in France strong aerostructures companies with the aim of becoming globally competitive,” said EADS CEO Louis Gallois.

Airbus CEO Tom Enders said “Premium AEROTEC is well equipped to become both a long-term partner for Airbus and a major player in the global aerostructures market. The company’s significant involvement in all Airbus programmes and its strong contribution to the A350 XWB programme are the foundation for excellent future business perspectives for Premium AEROTEC.”

Premium AEROTEC’s sites in Augsburg, Nordenham and Varel have many years of experience in the aerostructures business. Premium AEROTEC is a partner in all major European aircraft development programmes, such as the commercial Airbus aircraft families, the A400M military transport aircraft programme and the Eurofighter Typhoon. It plays a significant role in the design of new concepts in such fields as carbon composite technologies, in which it already is a leading expert.
