EADS Socata selected as industrial partner for the new A330 freighter nose fairing

  • Specific element of the new Airbus freighter will be made by EADS Socata which strengthens its position as a leader for large aircraft fairings

Tarbes, 18 June 2007

EADS Socata announces today that it has been selected by Airbus for the development, industrialization, manufacturing, and support of the nose of the A330-200F, the freighter version of the A330-200 for which EADS Socata has manuractured the belly fairing since 1997. This nose fairing. the main external characteristic of the new aircraft, as composed of nine panels, eight of which are made from composite materials (hybrid sandwich glass carbon) and one of metal. Assembled, the 5.9 m long, 2.3 m wide, 0.7 m high fairing represents a developable surface of 11 sq.m..

Launched commercially in 2006, the A330-200F responds to high market demand (in excess of 400 freighters in the over 60-ton category estimated for the coming 20 years). The A330-200 freighter is the only mid-size, long-haul all-cargo aircraft capable of carrying 64 tons over 4,000 nm/7,400 km, or 69 tons up to 3,200 nm/5,930 km in payload mode configuration. The first A330 freighter is slated to enter service in the second half of 2009.

"With this new contract, EADS Socata consolidates its leadership as an aircraft fairing manufacturer, supplying those of the whole Airbus A330/A340 range, that of the main landing gear of the A400M and the Dassault Falcon F2000 and F7X karmans business jets,” stated a delighted Dominique Malleville, EADS Socata’s Vice President Industry and Aerostructures.
