ILA Highlight Secured Networks and PMR

In Focus: Homeland Security

ILA/Berlin, 10 Mai 2004

As Europe’s leading aviation and space systems company, EADS is presenting its contribution to an efficient and sustained homeland security strategy at ILA. Homeland Security refers to defence against the growing asymmetrical threat from crime and terrorism as well as prompt response to natural and industrial disasters. In Germany and Europe this objective can be achieved by adopting a concept formulated by EADS: a Network of Systems for Internal and External Security — a stepwise integration of all safety-related organizations and facilities. The purpose of this Network of Systems is to ensure that the police, public transport, the military, fire departments, the Technical Emergency Service and other emergency services and hot spots are networked through efficient communications. Such cross-functional communications links are vital for any synergy between internal and external security services and consequently for effective security. According to EADS, such a Network of Systems requires three essential phases:

  1. The installation of reliable, secure communications networks.
  2. Organizational and communicative networking of the players — regionally and at the federal level, especially by joint control stations;
  3. Stepwise integration of the “hot spots” of internal security, such as airports, public transport and ports.

EADS can supply the equipment for such a Network of Systems: tap-proof, full-featured and interoperable digital radio communications based on the TETRAPOL-Standard. To link different subnetworks and technologies of the rescue and safety agencies, EADS equips control stations with the @CORE-System. In addition to its advanced, high-performance technology the company has years of experience in developing national security radio networks, for instance in the Czech Republic, in France, Spain and Switzerland. For many years, EADS has been a partner of

  • internal agencies globally, and has implemented and optimised voice and data communications in more than 34 countries;
  • the German military, which has used EADS communications solutions in Afghanistan and in Kosovo, among others;
  • industrial and transportation organizations, with solutions for digital communications at airports (Frankfurt/Main, Berlin-Tegel and Zürich) and in public transport (Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe, Hamburger HOCHBAHN, HEAG Darmstadt).

As a result, EADS ranks as a key industrial partner in critical safety-related areas, both with respect to internal and external security. As a general supplier, EADS combines its comprehensive know-how in the Homeland Security sector with a current sales volume of about EUR 1.5 billion annually. To meet complex customer and market requirements, EADS has developed the NetCOS simulation tool, which is capable of modeling the entire spectrum of required solutions.

At ILA, EADS is presenting a digital TETRAPOL radio network plus related systems and control station technology in actual use. Specialists are on hand to provide information about current technical capabilities and the EADS range of products and services for Homeland Security.
