EADS to expand defense presence in the United States

Announces assembly facility in Arkansas

Russellville/Arkansas, le 23  octobre  2002

EADS, the world’s second-largest defense and aerospace company, Wednesday announced the selection of Russellville, Arkansas, as the industrial site for activities related to their new Mobile Field Hospital System. Activities at the Russellville site will include the final assembly, testing, and maintenance of the systems intended for prototype, development and production for the U.S. military, as well as other federal customers.

The Mobile Field Hospital System, which is based on the company’s advanced military field hospital system marketed under the name TransHospital®, will meet the future requirements of the U.S. Armed Forces. Designed to provide state-of-the-art medical care to U.S. military personnel, the EADS system will be strategically deployable, tactically mobile and will provide a 72-hour self sustaining capability.

In the United States, EADS had been selected by the United States Army for the concept design study of the Future Medical Shelter System (FMSS). EADS expects to begin the development and manufacturing of a prototype in the near future.

Ralph Crosby, a member of the EADS Executive Committee and Chairman and CEO of EADS North America, said, “The selection of Arkansas for our new activities marks another important step in our U.S. strategy as we expand our industrial presence in the United States and seek to meet the needs of U.S. customers with high value products.”

Samuel Adcock, Executive Vice President for Government and Public Affairs for EADS North America, who made the site selection announcement in Russellville today, said, “We were attracted to Arkansas by the pro-business climate for new and expanding industries and the central location. When we evaluated the business case for Arkansas, we found an excellent workforce, superb working conditions, as well as an impressive level of community support. We appreciate the strong support and assistance of Senator Tim Hutchinson throughout this process, as well as the Arkansas Department of Economic Development.”

Following the successful, initial prototype effort, and its competitive selection, assembly of the first Mobile Field Hospital System production units would commence in 2004.
