EADS CASA obtains the first quality certification in the aerospace sector in continental Europe, in accordance with standard EN-9100

Madrid, 16 July 2002

Following its commitment with quality and in line with its historical tradition of striving for excellence, EADS CASA has been the first in Europe to obtain a certificate for its Quality Management System, in accordance with the International Standard EN 9100, under the Aerospace plan “Other Party”. At the same time, the company that certified EADS CASA, AENOR, has been the first Certification Entity in continental Europe to achieve accreditation which enables it to issue certificates under this plan. This accreditation has been granted by the National Accreditation Entity (ENAC).

Standard EN 9100, based on International Standard ISO 9001:2000 is stricter, and has particular complementary requirements applicable to the Aerospace Sector, derived from other documents belonging to the sector: JAR, FAR, AQAP, standards etc.

The “Other Party” plan is promoted by IAQG (International Aerospace Quality Group) at world level, by AECMA (European Association of Aerospace Industries) within Europe, and by ATECMA (Spanish Association for Aerospace Material Manufacturers) on a national level.

Certification under this plan is based primarily on the harmonisation and control of certification and accreditation processes, following procedures accepted world-wide. Apart from the opportunity to identify areas that can be improved during the certification process, it also offers the acceptance of the EADS CASA certification at an international level.

With revenues amounting to EUR 30.8 billion in 2001 and a workforce of over 100,000, EADS, European Aeronautic Defence and Space Company is the largest European aerospace company and the No 2 worldwide. It is active in the sectors of commercial aircraft, helicopters, space, military transport and combat aircraft as well as defence technology and services. Among others, EADS holds 80 percent of Airbus, 75 percent of the space company Astrium, 100 percent of the helicopter manufacturer Eurocopter, 43 percent in the Eurofighter programme and 37.5 percent in the missile company MBDA.
