EADS and IAPO Jointly Evaluate International Market Perspectives of Amphibious Aircraft Be-200Joint Press Release of EADS and IAPO Berlin, le 08 mai 2002 The European aerospace company EADS and the Russian Irkutsk Aircraft Production Association IAPO will jointly evaluate international market perspectives of the amphibious aircraft Be-200. Rainer Hertrich, CEO of EADS and Alexey Fyodorov, President of IAPO have signed a Memorandum of Understanding in the presence of Yury Brazhnikov, Vice Minister of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations on Wednesday at the International Aerospace Exhibition ILA 2002 in Berlin. The partners will set up a working group. Within six month, this group will carry out a market study and evaluate the necessary preconditions for international certification of the Be-200 and for implementation of a worldwide after-sales service network. If all evaluated questions will find positive answers, the working group will present a business plan. The working group will also evaluate other fields of cooperation for EADS and IAPO. “This MoU is a further step towards industrial cooperation between Russia and Western Europe”, said Hertrich and Fyodorov. “The Be-200 is unique in its market segment and therefore has an excellent potential.” This initiative by EADS and IAPO is a result of the cooperation agreement signed last year between EADS and the Russian aerospace industry in Moscow in the presence of the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin. The cooperation agreement has been widely discussed and supported by the Russian President during his recent visit in Germany. The Be-200 was developed for firefighting tasks. It can start and land on water and is able to load 12 tons of water. The first prototype has carried out 650 flight hours and is certified in Russia as a fire fighting aircraft. The launching customer is the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations, which has ordered seven aircraft. Your point of contact:
