City of Hamburg is the latest Police Customer for the EC 135

Eurocopter’s light Twin leads New-Generation Law Enforcement Market

Le Bourget, 14 June 2003

The City of Hamburg’s police force is, with its recently signed order for two EC 135s, the latest customer to use this Eurocopter model for law enforcement missions. In view of increasing demand for flexible and innovative tools to ensure the protection of internal security, the EC 135 is the first choice worldwide in its class and is the top selling new generation light twin engine helicopter.

In Europe alone, more than 55 of these helicopters are operated by law enforcement agencies. In Germany they are: the Federal Border Guard and — as soon as Hamburg receives its aircraft — six Bundesland (state) police forces, as well as Great Britain, Ireland, Greece, Spain and Sweden. This year, Eurocopter will also supply the first of three EC 135s to the Romanian police force, thereby opening a strategic central market in Eastern Europe. Amongst the police customers overseas are Kuwait, China, Japan, the USA, Mexico and Chile.

Further EC 135 milestones: After the delivery of the 250th helicopter to the Spanish air rescue operator CoyotAir in October 2002, the 300th aircraft follows hot on its heels this autumn. This is destined for the UK.

Just two years after deliveries began, the German Army’s EC135 training helicopters recently passed the magical 10,000 flying hours mark.

The ongoing success of the EC 135, which was introduced to the market in 1996, is founded upon its modular design as well as the digital avionics, the low noise main and tail rotors (the latter being a FenestronTM), the highly accessible and easily reconfigurable cabin, the wide variety of available and certified optional equipment and the persuasive economy and fuel efficiency as well as simple maintenance of the helicopter.
