Eurowings Increases its Capacity with the Induction of Six New Generation 72-500sToulouse, 23 January 2001 The German airline Eurowings Luftverkehrs AG, headquartered in Dortmund, and French-Italian ATR (Avions de Transport Régional) announce they have signed a contract in December 2000 for six new generation 72-500s. Deliveries of these aircraft will take place at a rate of 2 in March, followed by 2 in April and the remaining 2 in May and June 2001. Eurowings is, with a fleet of 27 ATRs (11 ATR 42, 16 ATR 72), the largest ATR operator in Europe and has started its ATR operations in 1956. The ATR 72-500's entry in the Eurowings' fleet is part of a fleet renewal and development plan. These new generation aircraft will be put into service on the European regional network in collaboration with Lufthansa. The ATR 72-500 has been selected by Eurowings for its greater seating capacity and will be equipped with 68 leather seats. The AiX 72-500 will replace the smaller ATR 42-300 on certain routes where traffic has grown. One of the key features of the ATR 72-500 is its superior passenger comfort. The ATR 72-500's interior styling provides a spacious feel to the cabin and, combined with the wide seats and wide aisle, it offers a jet-like comfort. The structure of the 72-500 includes noise absorbent materials and tuned vibration dampers which reduces internal noise levels and enhances the well-being of the passenger. Friedrich-Wilhelm Weitholz, Chairman of the board of Eurowings Luftverkehrs AG: "With this new order Eurowings continues its fleet renewal programme in order to continuously offer our passengers state-of-the-art aircraft. We selected the ATh 72-500 for its greater capacity and its high performance in smaller airports with short runways. Our passengers particularly appreciate the outstanding comfort of the ATR 500 Series." Antoine Bouvier, Chief Executive Officer ATR: "Eurowings is our largest European customer and we are proud to see the Eurowings-ATR partnership continue which has lead to the valuable recognition of both Eurowings and ATR in the German and world wide markets." Eurowings offers 280 connections to 61 destinations in 18 European countries daily. ATR has delivered 613 aircraft to over 100 airlines in 65 countries. Press Contact:
