On Display at ILA, Eurocopter’s enhanced EC155 B1 is the Top-End Choice for Law Enforcement Missions

In the Static Display at ILA, Eurocopter is showing an EC155 B1 on loan from the German Federal Police, Bundespolizei. The EC155 B1 is Eurocopter’s top-end product for demanding law enforcement and VIP missions. The Bundespolizei operates a total of 15 of these aircraft. They are part of a total fleet of 102 Eurocopter helicopters in their service.

The EC155’s powerful engines enable the fastest cruising speed of any helicopter in its class while the five-bladed main rotor and advanced Fenestron® tail rotor system ensure a smooth, vibration-free flight at the lowest possible noise level. More than 80 EC155s have been sold to date.

The EC155 B1 is an enhanced version of the proven EC155 B and offers improved performance in high altitude and hot temperature conditions as well as in OEI conditions. The enhancement is directly related to the new powerful digitally controlled Turbomeca Arriel 2C2 engines, which offer 10% more power. The maximum take-off weight (MTOW) has been increased to 4,920 kg. The EC155 B1 cruises at 275 km/h, and has a range of 810 km, making it the perfect aircraft for top-end law enforcement missions.

The latest advances from Eurocopter's recent R & D programs have also been integrated in the EC155 B1. They include noise and vibration attenuation and improved piloting comfort, as well as single-pilot IFR capability.

The EC155 B1 is fitted with a new 5-blade Spheriflex main rotor with a very low vibration level, and a Fenestron® tail rotor which is a direct result of Eurocopter’s research on the "low noise helicopter". This tail rotor has 10 blades spaced irregularly around the hub. All this adds up to less noise, i.e. 4.5 dB below the latest standards laid down by the ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization).
