EADS acquires SOFRELOG, one of the market leaders in the area of sea traffic surveillance systems.

  • EADS portfolio strengthened in the range of products of coastal and maritime surveillance
  • Access to new markets enhanced

Paris, 09 May 2006

The EADS Group has concluded a contract for the takeover of the French company, SOFRELOG, through its French leg of the Defence & Security Systems (EADS DS SAS) division. SOFRELOG is amongst the market leaders in the provision of solutions for shipping control and coastal surveillance.

The acquisition of SOFRELOG reflects EADS’s strategy to strengthen its business in the area of defence and security and also in the maritime sector, in which it is in the midst of acquiring Atlas Elektronik GmbH, and will further enhance its position in the area of coastal and maritime surveillance. Thanks to this acquisition, EADS will now be in position to offer an even broader and more attractive range of offerings to governments and shipping and harbour authorities.

Sofrelog supplies harbour and sea traffic control systems plus coastal surveil-lance systems based on the SYTAR™ technology, which is recognized by institutional and corporate customers as one of the most advanced develop-ments in this area.

As Hervé Guillou, CEO of EADS Defence and Communications Systems, explained, “The SOFRELOG products constitute essential modules in the wide range of security products and services involving ship components from EADS and will strengthen our position in the developing market for sea traffic surveillance and global security. This takeover will enable us to extend our customer base in this area, in which we already have prestigious reference customers such as Estonia and Portugal.”

Commenting on the takeover, Georges Roy, Chief Executive of SOFRELOG, said, “We will be able to reference our international activities to major Euro-pean group which has a global presence and meet EADS’ ambitions in the area of platform systems for maritime traffic surveillance and general secu-rity. In addition, support from EADS will enable us to step up our traditional activities.”

The Defence and Communications Systems (DCS) Business Unit is the "Systems House" of EADS and an integrated part of the EADS Defence & Security Systems Division (DS).

With revenues of about € 5.6 billion in 2005 and roughly 23,000 employees across nine nations, the EADS Defence & Security Systems (DS) division forms the defence and security pillar within EADS. As a Large Systems Inte-grator, it offers integrated system solutions to the new challenges confronting armed forces and global security. It is active in the areas of manned and un-manned integrated combat and mission air systems, including related training services, and in missile systems, battlefield management systems for all branches, global security solutions, secure networks, defence electronics, sensors and avionics as well as related services.

EADS is a global leader in aerospace, defence and related services.. In 2005, EADS generated revenues of € 34.2 billion and employed a workforce of about 113,000.

SOFRELOG is the market leader in the area of coastal and maritime surveil-lance in France and supplies integrated sea and air traffic surveillance sys-tems based on the SYTAR™ technology. Based in Bezons (Département Val d’Oise, near Paris), the French company employs over 50 staff and maintains offices in the USA and Taiwan. With a turnover of over € 15 million in 2005, half of it gained through exports, SOFRELOG is not only a market leader in the French market, but is also active on every continent. Its reference pro-jects include deliveries to Denmark, Spain, China, Malaysia, Canada and the Middle East.
