EADS and SITA plan to team-up to offer solutions for optimised turn around procedures at airports

  • Faster turn around time for airlines
  • Enhanced efficiency and security
  • Improvement of information flow

Munich, 16  October  2006

EADS and SITA, the world's leading service provider of IT business solutions and communications services to the air transport industry, have signed an agreement which aims to provide integrated airport mobile radio and IT solutions to the airport industry. This will optimise the aircraft turn around at airports by giving support to airport processes, improving productivity and enhancing efficiency and security.

Airports and airlines are under increasing pressure to do more, quickly and cheaply, especially in light of LCCs and current fuel prices. The joint solutions of EADS Secure Networks and SITA will ensure improvement in the flow of information, which is an important requirement of airports to optimise the process chain from arrival to departure, or turn around of aircraft. EADS Secure Networks is a leading supplier in digital mobile radio systems for airports and SITA is the world’s leading provider of IT business solutions and communication services for the air transport industry. The cooperation of these industry leaders will increase the efficiency and effectiveness of operations at an airport.

EADS is a member of the Task-Force for Collaborative Decision Making (CDM) of EUROCONTROL, the European Organisation for the Safety of Air Navigation. It is the company’s aim to improve the information dissemination especially during the turn around process of an aircraft, typically enabling a ramp agent to report EOTB (Estimated Off-Block Time) delays quickly, accurately and decisively to the relevant parties.

Jean-Marc Nasr, Head of EADS Secure Networks stated: “EADS has gained experience of over 20 years at Europe’s major airports. It’s our strategy to utilise and continue this success story: the integration of airport digital radio with IT is a major step assisting the airport industry in the management of a huge increase in passenger volume and their safety. This is a major challenge of the 21st century. After a detailed analysis, we chose to go for a close cooperation with SITA.”

EADS Secure Networks belongs to the Defence and Communications Systems (DCS) Business Unit, the EADS "Systems House", and is an integrated part of the EADS Defence & Security Systems (DS) Division.

Defence & Security Systems (DS) is a system solutions provider. It combines military air systems, missile systems, communications and intelligence systems, global security solutions as well as sensor and avionics systems into a single effective network. With 2005 revenues of € 5.6 billion, the Division employs 23,000.

EADS is a global leader in aerospace, defence and related services. In 2005, EADS generated revenues of € 34.2 billion and employed a workforce of about 113,000.
