AIR Deccan takes delivery of 2 ATR 42-500 aircraft

Toulouse, 20  December  2004

The Indian low-cost airline Air Deccan took delivery of 2 second-hand ATR 42-500 aircraft. These aircraft, delivered in a 48-seat configuration, are the first two of five ATR 42-500 announced at Farnborough Airshow 2004.

These will be the first aircraft of the –500 generation operated by the airline.

The 3 additional aircraft will be delivered between the end 2004 and February 2005.

Air Deccan is a division of Deccan Aviation Pvt. Ltd. that was created in 1997. The Bangalore-based airline started its operations in 2003 with a fleet of 4 ATR 42-320, before ordering three other ones. With this new delivery, the Indian carrier will operate a fleet of 9 ATR 42s on its domestic network with links to cities such as Mysore, Hubli, Hampi, Belgaum, Hyderabad, Tirupati and Chennai from New Delhi. The total fleet will grow to 12 ATR 42s with the remaining 3 deliveries in early 2005.

ATR aircraft are well suited to the Indian market and the low-cost airline plans to step forward by ordering new aircraft in the near future.

In the Asia Pacific area, 97 ATRs are currently operated by 22 airlines. By early 2005, 24 ATR aircraft will be operated in India by three airlines: Air Deccan, Jet Airways and Alliance Air.
