EADS at Asian Aerospace 2004

  • First at a major international air show: a UAV
    flying demonstration
  • Netcos-demonstration for joint naval, air and
    land defence scenario

Sinpagore, 20  February  2004

EADS, a global leader in aerospace and defence, is participating in the Asian Aerospace 2004 exhibition at Changi Exhibition Centre from February 24 to 29. Asia-Pacific is becoming the major region of growth for the world economy. EADS with its outstanding products is committed to be part of this growth. EADS presents its wide range of capabilities in aircraft manufacturing for civil (Airbus, ATR, Socata), and military purposes (Eurofighter, A 400M, CN-235, Mako), helicopters (NH 90, AS 532 MKI Cougar), UAVs, (Eagle, Orka) and many other defence and security applications as well as space technologies and service offerings in Hall A, stand No 701.

At Asian Aerospace 04, EADS’ Network Centric Operations system Netcos will simulate a joint naval, air and land defence scenario involving the participation and the interaction of digital models of surveillance aircraft, UAVs and weapon systems such as combat aircraft and ground-to-air batteries. EADS is also presenting Samoc (Surface-to-air missile operations centre), which provides planning, tasking and evaluating for military operations. Armed Forces moving into a new field of combat are expecting a systems-of-systems solution that enables speed of command, efficiency and flexibility. Samoc has been in service since 1999 and continues to meet and satisfy its customer’s needs. EADS is currently seeking industrial partners in the Asian pacific region, beginning with Malaysia in December of last year, to market Samoc as a systems solution to air defence.

A strong focus of Asian Aerospace will be on UAVs. EADS is presenting mock-ups of the maritime vertical take-off and landing UAV Orka, which is based on a helicopter airframe and the under development medium altitude long endurance drone Eagle. Eagle is designed as a comprehensive interoperable and coherent system to deliver the right information in real-time at every level of the operational chain, combining the latest cutting-edge UAV technology, fully compatible with current C4i systems to become a major asset in network centric operations. An Eagle prototype has also been selected by the UK Ministry of Defence for the Medium Altitude Long Endurance (MALE) aspect of the Joint UAV Experimental Programme JUEP. This prototype will perform daily demonstrations flights during Asian Aerospace every day – the first UVA flying demonstration at a major international airshow.

EADS will hold a press conference on Wednesday, 25th February 2004, at 2.30 p.m. in the EADS Chalet, D 4-7. Main speakers will be the EADS CEOs Philippe Camus and Rainer Hertrich.

EADS is a global leader in aerospace, defence and related services. In 2002, EADS generated revenues of € 29.9 billion and employed a workforce of more than 100,000. The EADS Group includes the aircraft manufacturer Airbus, the world's largest helicopter supplier Eurocopter and the joint venture MBDA, the second largest missile producer in the global market. EADS is the major partner in the Eurofighter consortium, is the prime contractor for the Ariane launcher, develops the A400M military transport aircraft and is the largest industrial partner for the European satellite navigation system Galileo.
