SOSTAR-X Programme Acquires a new General Manager

Friedrichshafen, 19  January  2004

Dr. Enno Littmann, former Senior Manager Business Development at EADS ISR, has been appointed new General Manager of SOSTAR GmbH. He follows Dr. Eugen Herpfer in this function, who will retire this year.

SOSTAR GmbH is a Joint Venture Company between Dutch Space, EADS, Galileo Avionica, Indra, and Thales. It has been founded in 2001 to perform the SOSTAR-X Programme (Stand-Off Surveillance and Target Acquisition Radar Demonstrator) to demonstrate until 2006 an advanced ground surveillance radar with active electronically steered antenna. The SOSTAR programme recently passed the Critical Design Review. The demonstration will be performed on a Fokker 100 testbed aircraft.

EADS Defence & Communication Systems (DCS) as part of the newly restructured Defence & Security Systems division of EADS, is at the very heart of the EADS defence activities. It employs approx. 5,500 staff at about 15 locations in Germany and France.

DCS has been created in order to better respond to the new evolution of the defence markets which are more focused on global solutions and integrated systems. For this purpose, DCS regroups several defence activities with the telecommunications activities of EADS. Its field of competence encompasses manned and unmanned systems such as tactical and strategic UAVs, manned mission aircraft, Command, Control, Communication Information systems (C3I), Air Defence, Public Safety and Homeland Security.

DCS is the System House of EADS for the implementation of advanced defence concepts, simulation and experimentation.
