ALITALIA EXPRESS Takes Delivery of Its Sixth ATR 72-500

ALITALIA EXPRESS, the fully owned subsidiary of Italian flag carrier ALITALIA has taken delivery of its sixth ATR 72-500 at a ceremony in the presence of Mr. Cereti, President of ALITALIA and Mr. Chieli, Chief Executive Officer of ALITALIA EXPRESS.

With this aircraft ordered at the Farnborough air show, ALITALIA EXPRESS will bring its total ATR fleet to 10 aircraft (4 ATR 72-210s and 6 ATR 72-500s).

The 66 seat new generation ATR 72-500 will mainly feed the airports of Malpensa (Milano) and Fiumicino (Rome).

ALITALIA EXPRESS was established in 1997 to develop regional, domestic and international air transport and specialises in feeder flights from and to hubs, point to point connections in Italian provinces and in Europe.

Mr Chieli, Chief Executive Officer of ALITALIA EXPRESS : “Our passengers, as confirmed by our customer satisfaction surveys, appreciate the qualities of the –500 series which represents a real technological step forward in respect to the other regional turboprop aircraft in terms of comfort, economics and performances”.

This ATR 72-500 is also the first regional aircraft in Europe to come of the production line with the reinforced cockpit door installed. ATR launched its Cockpit Security Enhancement Programme in 2002. The FAA requires all US operators to be equipped before April 9th, 2003, while in Europe this requirement is not yet compulsory.

To date, 655 ATRs have been delivered to more than 100 airlines in 70 countries.
