In a press conference held today in Paris, Stéphane Mayer, Chairman and CEO of EADS Socata commented the past year preliminary figures: “ In 2006 we recorded a 21% growth of our revenue, and a growing backlog of 562 M€ which leaves us with good perspectives for 2007 and after.”

“This growth is the result of the commercial success of our Very Fast Turboprop TBM 850, a sustained activity in Aerostructure programs, and significant customer support contracts. EADS Socata has achieved a 228 millions euros turnover (+ 21% compared to 188 m€ in 2005).

The TBM 850, announced in December 2005, has met its expectations in 2006, with 42 TBM 850 delivered (+ 35 % compared to 31 TBM 700 in 2005). Built on the success of the TBM 700, the TBM 850 offers its pilots and operators what they expected : a maximum cruising speed of 320 KTAS at flight level 260, combining the cruising speed and trip times of a light jet with the economic direct operating costs, range and useful load a of a already well proven world-class single-engine turboprop.

On the aerostructures side, being a partner of successful programs, EADS Socata has delivered 13% more sub-assemblies to its customers. Its main programs are: Airbus A380 nose lower structure and composite landing gear doors, A330/A340 composite belly fairing, ,A320 family engine pylon, Dassault Falcon 7X upper fuselage and composite body fairing, Embraer ERJ 170/190 rear section and Eurocopter EC130 & EC350 airframe.

In 2006 EADS Socata became the sole provider of belly fairing for the A330/A340 family, and is now, world’s number two for the volume production of composite belly fairing. In this field, Socata was selected in 2006 by Dassault for a section of the Falcon 2000 composite body fairing. EADS Socata is also growing another core specialty in the area of Composite Landing Gear Doors, for the A 380 and the A 400 M.

EADS Socata enjoyed also a couple of successes in the customer service field:

  • new contract for the full operational maintenance of the TBM military fleet for 8 years,
  • successful bid for the full operational maintenance of the fleet of the French military pilot training school, based in Cognac, a 174 m€ contract over 10 years in partnership with EADS Defense; EADS Socata 42% share of this contract includes engineering, maintenance and logistics.

For General Aviation, the target of 50 TBM 850 aircraft is within reach, supported by a backlog of 40 aircraft. Customer service anticipates an increased activity with the current new service contracts.

Aerostructure business will continue its growth, thanks to the success of our existing programs, and with the addition of the first deliveries of the A400M sub-assemblies (composite fairing “sponsons” and composite nose landing gear doors).
EADS Socata has also entered the competition for some work-package for the Airbus A350 XWB.

EADS Socata intend to prepare the future and participate in new technology development and has launched a composites fuselage research program, “FUSCOMP”, within the new Aerospace Valley, competitiveness cluster.

EADS Socata is one of the world’s leading general aviation manufacturers, with more than 17,000 aircraft built since its creation as Morane-Saulnier in 1911.

Current products include the TBM family of high-speed turboprops, TB GT piston aircraft, aerostructures for Airbus civil airliners, the A400M military transporter, Dassault Falcon jets, Eurocopter helicopters and Embraer regional jets.

EADS Socata is expanding its customer service activities, to support its growing fleet of TBM and offer its light aviation expertise for aircraft below 5,7 tons through avionics modernization, maintenance, repair and overall package offers. Headquartered in Tarbes, France, with North American operations in Pembroke Pines, Florida, EADS Socata is a wholly owned subsidiary of EADS – a global leader in aerospace, defence and related services.
