Tornado ECR - The ECR (Electronic Combat and Reconnaissance) version is optimised for electronic battle management and reconnaissance. It is equipped with an Emitter Locator System (ELS), an Infrared Imaging System (IIS), Forward Looking Infrared (FLIR) and the Operational Data Interface (ODIN). The AGM-88 HARM High-speed Anti-Radiation Missile is used to combat radar installations.

Tornado RECCE - 37 Tornado aircraft of the German Air Force have been equipped with an external reconnaissance pod for tactical reconnaissance purposes. These are known as Tornado RECCE. They can be deployed day and night in any weather conditions. The "Recce pod" is basically compatible with all modern combat aircraft. It has two KS153A optical cameras from Zeiss, a Honeywell infrared line scanner, the Honeywell Recce Management System as well as digital data recording equipment (Ampex). Thanks to the modular design of the pod, modernization is possible at any time.

The exceptional capabilities of all Tornados are guaranteed by an automatic terrain following system and a design with variable wing geometry (swing-wing). EADS Military Aircraft is responsible for retrofit and modernization programmes for NATO´s E-3A fleet, with Boeing as prime contractor. Since 1997, Dornier Flugzeugwerft GmbH (DFW) has been transferring their NATO E-3A depot-level maintenance activities to Manching, too. DFW has been certified as European based Sustainment and Engineering Capability ESEC for AWACS in September 2004.

EF-18 Hornet - EADS Military Aircraft carries out depot inspections on the EF-18 Hornets flown by the Spanish Air Force. The comprehensive maintenance program covers the engines, fuel systems, installation of a new VOR/ILS and repair work. EADS Military Aircraft is also implementing an update program for EF-18 Hornet. This program includes COMMS/NAV/INDENT and EW systems, cockpit upgrades, MIDS LVT, improvements to the aircraft structure and modern mission computers. The first prototype equipped with the new systems was completed in mid 2000. Modernization of the complete fleet started in January 2004.

F-4F Phantom II - The Phantom is conventionally designed and capable of all-weather operations. Its advantages include a relatively large ammunition payload. Military Air Systems is responsible for the care and maintenance of this aircraft. The tasks of the Business Unit include the supply of spare parts and technical documentation, overhauls, and a variety of measures directed at the enhancement of performance and the extension of useful service life. The Phantoms of the German Air Force will be replaced by the Eurofighter.

F-5 - Military Air Systems provides technical logistical support and modernization work for the F-5 serving with the Spanish air force as modern training aircraft. This includes installing the latest electronics, new navigation and communications systems, head-up and multifunction displays, virtual radar, as well as work on the aircraft structure.
