EADS Military Air Systems focuses all activities relating to unmanned military aircraft at the Manching site and is the biggest military aviation centre in Europe.

The site also comprises the development centre with associated laboratories, system and integration test rigs, simulation systems and computer-aided design facilities. A focal point is the technological development work in the areas of avionics, flight control systems, sensors, fire control systems and data processing. Research in the areas of signature technology, electrical ground systems, ground based systems and simulation is also carried out there.

Final assembly of Eurofighter, system tests, flight testing, in-service support for aircraft flown by the German Air Force. Dornier Flugzeugwerft (DFW) is also located at the site – responsible for maintenance of the P-3 Orion, NATO E-3A AWACS and the Breguet Atlantic. Manching equips the fuselage sections for the 707 Eurofighters ordered to date.

Final assembly of the 180 Eurofighters destined for the German Air Force began in December 2000. The first production Eurofighter for Germany took off on its maiden flight in February 2003.

Delivery of the first tranche of the core programme has now been completed.

Final assembly of the Eurofighters ordered by Austria also takes place in Manching.

The system support centres and equipment for Eurofighter and Tornado, which are operated in cooperation with the German Air Force, are also based here.

Manching is responsible for the repair and combat efficiency improvement of high-performance military aircraft (Tornado) and transport aircraft (Transall C-160). Together with Dornier Flugzeugwerft (DFW), depot maintenance work, and overhaul and upgrade programmes for the mission aircraft E-3A AWACS of NATO and for the maritime patrol aircraft P-3 Orion and Breguet Atlantic operated by the German Navy are also carried out here.
