EADS Defence & Security Systems Belgium NV
Located in Oostkamp (West-Vlaanderen), EADS DS Belgium NV is a production plant of the EADS Defence & Security Division. The plant is mainly active in the sector of Defence Electronics and delivers a wide range of products and equipment, which is integrated by systems-suppliers in a wide variety of platforms such as e.g. EUROFIGHTER, A400M etc. Typical products are IFF-Transponders (Identification Friend Foe), Power Amplifiers for MIDS (Multifunctional Information Distribution System), Tactical Radio Systems as well as components for Radar systems. The products manufactured in Oostkamp are designed by the German R&D departments of EADS located in Ulm and Munich. For integration and testing of these products, we develop our own fully advanced test benches.
The Oostkamp-plant is located close to the major highway E40. The buildings represent 12.000 m² of the total plant-area of 55.000 m². The total plant-area is electronically protected to comply with military standards concerning secured areas. Employee entry to the premises is controlled through a personalised badge. Different levels of classification of NATO/military security can be fulfilled. Employee figures are since a few years stable around 200 people (circa 135 hourly paid workers and 65 employees/engineers). The major production technologies are focused around high-speed CNC-milling, special surface treatment of aluminium parts, modern electronic assembly techniques, high-frequency assembly and tuning equipment and a unique clean-room area (class 10000) in which miniature hybrid-modules are produced. The equipment, being mostly used in flying platforms is subjected to stringent environmental and stress screening tests (temperature/shock/vibration) in specialized test-rooms, before being exported to customers. The whole production and material-flow activities are supported by a modern and powerful state-of-the-art IT infrastructure (SAP R/3).
