Savings through shared use

A shared radio network brings benefits while cutting costs. This is because a common communication infrastructure avoids duplicating investments.

Shared and private

Even with a shared network, each agency can have full privacy. This is possible because the EADS system gives each agency a Virtual Private Network (VPN). Each agency retains private communications, yet can communicate with each other when they need to.

Optimising total cost

The EADS offer cuts the total cost of ownership for customers due to its low operating expenses. This is because TETRA and TETRAPOL need fewer base stations than other systems and offer better tools for operation and maintenance.

Operating expenses can form as much as 80% of the total cost of ownership of a public safety network over just ten years.

The total cost of ownership consists of three elements:

  • Capital expenditure (CAPEX). Investment in the network infrastructure.
  • Implementation expenditure (IMPEX). Cost of building and roll-out of the network.
  • Operating expenditure (OPEX). Operating and maintenance cost of the network. OPEX is the important cost element, because it accumulates over the whole lifetime of the network.
