Capacity and Competence

© Elbe Flugzeugwerke GmbH

Elbe Flugzeugwerke GmbH (EFW) in Dresden is a 100% subsidiary and business unit of EADS. Within EADS, EFW is the centre of competence for the conversion of Airbus passenger aircraft into freighters (A300 & A310 widebody aircraft) and the associated maintenance. EFW is also the centre of excellence for the manufacture of fibre-reinforced sandwich components for interior furnishings of the entire Airbus family.

The approx. 250 000 m² site comprises a production area of roughly 65 000 m². In the state-of-the-art hangars, shops and laboratories, a skeleton staff of around 1143 (31.12.2007) qualified employees is at work for Airbus programs and customers in a close production network with German and European partner companies. The know-how of the employees, the decades of experience in aircraft maintenance and an optimum infrastructure (ensured by direct access to the Dresden-Klotzsche airport, good connections to motorways and rail links) create the best conditions for the realization of demanding Airbus conversion and maintenance programs as well as for the production of fibre-reinforced components for the interiors for Airbus.

EFW has its own vocational training center where young people are trained as aircraft mechanics and commercial employees.
