ATR Signs a New Contract with TACV

ATR and Cape Verde, Praia-based TACV (Transportes Aereos de Cabo Verde) have today signed a contract for 3 new ATR aircraft (1 ATR 42-500 and 2 ATR 72-500s). The contract, of a total value of $ 50 million, has been inked in Toulouse by Filippo Bagnato, ATR CEO, and Joao Higino do Rosario Silva, TACV Chairman and CEO.
The three new ATR aircraft will be delivered in 2007 and will be equipped with the new “Elegance Cabin” and with the newest technological innovations in the field of communications and navigation aid tools. These ATR aircraft will allow the airline to renew its current fleet of 3 ATR 42-300s as well as to increase passengers capacity in order to further develop the tourism in the country.
Joao Higino do Rosario Silva declared: “It is our aim to give to our passengers the newest standards of comfort and so, we are proud of the renewal of our fleet with the acquisition of these 3 new ATR aircraft. Also, the increasing of the total capacity of our ATR aircraft fleet responds to our desire to continue developing the interisland transportation in our country. The growth of our carrier with these bigger and newer aircraft will take a main role in such development”.
Filippo Bagnato said: “We are pleased to receive this new confirmation of confidence from TACV, which has been operating ATR aircraft since 1994. The well-known comfort and the unbeatable economics of the ATR aircraft will allow the airline to achieve its objectives of growth and development in the archipelago”.
TACV currently operates three turboprops ATR 42-300, and two Boeing 757-200-ERs.
From the beginning of the year, ATR has received orders for 57 new aircraft, some of them not yet unveiled. Africa represents 20% of the 2006 order intakes and 21 operators currently fly the ATR aircraft in that continent.
Since the beginning of the programme, ATR has sold 835 aircraft (401 ATR 42s and 434 ATR 72s).
The –500 series: New Generation aircraft
With its ATR 42-500 and ATR 72-500, ATR supplies state-of-the-art aircraft with jet-like comfort. The advanced six-blade propeller provides remarkably low noise levels. Low fuel burn and gaseous emissions contribute to make the ATR environment friendly. All ATR models are compliant with noise regulations and have a large margin with regard to Chapter IV (ICAO) noise regulations, effective 1st January 2006.
