Investors and Operators rank ATR Number one in Turboprops for the third consecutive year

Toulouse, 05  November  2001

Monthly magazine « Airfinance Journal » has published the results of its annual Investors' and Operators' Poll in its October issue. ATR is ranked number one in turboprops for the third consecutive year.

The poll also reveals that Operators and Investors have given a vote of confidence to regional aircraft manufacturers and their products.

The survey has investors and operators rank individual aircraft models on the basis of five criteria : operational success, investor appeal, re-marketing potential, residual value and value for money.

In the investors' poll ATR took the first four spots : the ATR 42-500 came in highest, followed by the ATR 72-500, the ATR 42-300 in third and the ATR 72-210 in fourth position.

The operators have ranked the ATR family in the first five positions : again the ATR 42-500 comes in first followed by the ATR 72-500. The ATR 42-300 follows on number three and the ATR 72-210 and ATR 72-200 both come in on number four. According to « Airfinance Journal » : « Among the turboprops, ATR dominated every category and swept the first five places, with the ATR 72-500 earning an impressive top score. The highest scoring model overall was the ATR 42-500 which also achieved the highest value for money. »

« Airfinance Journal » also adds : « ATR came in first place in operational success, and scored impressively in every category. » Airfinance Journal quotes Frantisek Slaby, executive vice-president at Czech Airlines (CSA), « the main factor accounting for this is the manufacturer's spacious cabin. Looking at other turboprops, and even some (regional) jets, the ATR is better in terms of passenger comfort. »

Low operating cost was also cited as a factor in ATR's popularity.

And « Airfinance Journal » confirms that « the turboprops overall continue to be a popular alternative to regional jets from the carriers' viewpoint »

To date ATR has sold 659 new aircraft (370 ATR 42s and 289 ATR 72s). The ATR is operated by 103 airlines in 65 countries.
