To celebrate this event, EADS will presents itself and its famous brands and products such as Airbus, Ariane, Astrium, ATR, Eurocopter, Eurofighter, LFK Lenkflugkörpersysteme GmbH, MBDA (in formation) or Socata in a 3000 m2 pavilion (Pavilion 28). Its flying display at Le Bourget will include some of the world's most modern aircraft like such as the Eurofighter, the Airbus family - including the A340-600 - the C-295 military transporter and high-tech helicopters like such as the Tiger, EC-135 or and NH-90.
"Two years ago, at Le Bourget 1999, the consolidation of the European aerospace industry took shape with the merger of Aerospatiale and Matra and the announcement of Dasa and CASA to join that they were joining forces,", say Philippe Camus and Rainer Hertrich, the CEOs of EADS. "EADS now has been operational for one year. In this year, we have not only delivered what we have promised in terms of profit, products and the integration of the three companies, we have . We even exceeded expectations and have been able to raise our profitability target ofto 10 % in 2004." Commenting on the airshow, the CEOs continued: "Here at Le Bourget 2001 programmes for Europe's future in aviation, space and defence technology are on display. " Further news on important European defence programmes and on the European consolidation process is expected during the show.
As the first transnationally integrated unit of the defence industry, EADS will present its newly formed business unit Systems & Defence Electronics. The entity is Europe's third largest supplier in the fields of surveillance and reconnaissance, military command and control systems and aircraft electronics. The new unit aims to become a major player in the fields of unmanned aerial vehicles, which will be another important issue at Le Bourget. EADS will present for the first time its comprehensive drone portfolio.
Additionally, EADS will demonstrate the scope of transatlantic cooperation projects with its US partner Northrop Grumman in this field and in many other sectors of defence technology. In the joint EADS - Northrop Grumman pavilion, the companies will present an overview of their common activities in intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance. "This cooperation has turned out to be a cornerstone in our US strategy," says Tom Enders, head of the Defence Division of EADS. "I'm sure that we'll be able to announce something new on this at Le Bourget".
Airbus, the European passenger aircraft manufacturer, will be demonstrating the new A340-600 in flight for the first time at an airshow. Two A319CJ Airbus corporate jetliners will fly VIP flights and can be visited at the static display. Airbus will also present four symbolic full-scale fuselage sections: those of the A300/310, the A320 family, the A330/A340 family and the recently launched A380Superjumbo.
EADS CASA is bringing brings three C-295 aircraft to Le Bourget: . Oone for the flying display, one military transporter version for the static display and one equipped as a maritime patrol aircraft with the FITS system. This "Fully Integrated Tactical System" developed by CASA, is designed for specialised military tasks, such as maritime surveillance or and antisubmarine warfare. The first customer is the Spanish Air Force, which will modernise its P-3s Orion with the FITS. The United Arab Emirates has also selected the FITS, but in this case for installation on the CASA C-295 aircraft.
Eurocopter, the largest manufacturer of civil helicopters worldwide, brings is bringing three novelties to Le Bourget: The EC 130 will be demonstrated for the first time in Europe;, the EC 145 will have its commercial launch at the show; and the EC 725 will give its world airshow debut. Eurocopter is a 100 percent wholly owned subsidiary of EADS.
MBDA, the missile company in formation, also has a is also making its first appearance in at le Bourget. MBDA will be founded by EADS Aerospatiale Matra Missiles, Matra BAe Dynamics and Alenia. At a separate stand (C19) in Hall 2A, MBDA will be presentings the Meteor missile, which is designed to equipped be carried by fighter aircraft like such as the Eurofighter and Rafale. It is the first development in this sector, which meets to meet the demands of six European nations. The cooperation agreement between the six participating nations is expected to be signed very soon. LFK GmbH, which will be integrated into MBDA in a further step, will present its mission planning system for the Polyphem missile for the first time.
The concept of the Mako light fighter and trainer aircraft Mako has already been an attraction at airshows for several years. In Le Bourget, a fully functional cockpit demonstrator will be shown. Potential customers will be able to take a realistic 'flight' in the Mako, both in a conventional simulation mode in the front cockpit and in a futuristic virtual reality environment in the rear seat.
ATR, the successful regional aircraft manufacturer, will appear at the salon for the first time in a new, integrated structure. ATR aircraft will be on static display in two versions: the ATR 42 Surveyor (Maritime Patrol) and the ATR 72-500 of Bangkok Air.
For the 90th anniversary of Socata, the successful manufacturer of small aircraft owned by EADS, the company is presenting two vintage aircraft: a Morane-Saulnier H replica from 1913 and a Morane-Saulnier MS 138 Parasol from 1927, which is the only flying aircraft of this type in France. Founded 90 years ago, Socata is the oldest single aircraft manufacturer in the world.
In addition to an illustrious history, Socata also boasts leading-edge technology for the year 2002: the TB 20 Trinidad GT aircraft equipped with the latest Honeywell avionics and the TBM 700 Freight version with reinforced floor and an IHAS system avionics suite.
Astrium, the European space company in which EADS holds a 75 percent stake, is presenting the new Vinci engine for the Ariane 5 rocket, which will enter service in 2006. Future space transporters including the Automated Transfer Vehicle, an unmanned supply vehicle for the International Space Station, can be seen, as well as various models of a reusable European transport shuttle.
EADS Launch Vehicles presents for the first time the heat shield of Beagle 2. A life-size model of the Martian lander is presented on the EADS stand. It is equipped with the same thermal protections as the flight model, which will land on Mars in 2003, within the framework of the Mars Express mission
The European Navigation System Galileo will be also demonstrated by Astrium. "We believe that positioning information, when combined with mobile communications, is the next great technological breakthrough. It is essential for Europe to launch Galileo", say Camus and Hertrich.
