Intrepid signs contract with EADS EFW for A300-600R/ A310-300 conversion packagesDresden/Paris, 19 June 2001 US-based lessor Intrepid Aviation Partners Group has selected EFW (Elbe Flugzeugwerke GmbH) to perform the conversion of up to twenty-five Airbus passenger aircraft into freighters over the next five years. EFW in Dresden I Germany is the core conversion facility within EADS (European Aeronautic Defence and Space Company N.V). The agreement between EFW and Intrepid provides for the conversion of A300-600R and A310-300 aircraft. The first two Intrepid A300-600R aircraft will enter Dresden's hangar mid-2002 and will return to service as converted freighter aircraft before the end of 2002. The excellent performance capabilities of these converted wide body freighters capable of carrying up to 48 tonnes of payload offer economic efficiency and maximum interlining potential in response to the demand of cargo airlines operating medium to long haul services. The multiple choice freighter payload solution jointly developed by Intrepid and EFW and to be installed by EFW accommodates an array of ULD requirements optimized for interfacing with narrowbody and widebody freighter fleets. This Airbus freighter conversion consists of a 100% OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) solution and uses a maximum number of common parts from the corresponding Airbus freighter production, which gives the operator all the reliability and safety of a serial production aircraft.
