Christopher O’Brien Organ is working as an Aircraft Structures Engineer at Airbus Military in Spain

“You have been selected to be among the first people to take part in a brand new graduate programme for a global company, the first of a new generation. Much is expected by you and of you. You will be “future leaders”.

How do you know the company you work for is really global?
You join their international graduate programme. This is already an indication but lots of companies have this kind of programme nowadays. When you have your telephone interview you get a call from the US. You get asked to come to Paris for the Assessment Centre. While you are there, you speak to some people from Germany doing the assessment and to a Spaniard carrying out the interview. You finally get a job offer to work in Spain. Your first day is a Kick-off Event near Bordeaux in France, where you meet the others who were successful in the assessment. They come from the UK, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, India, Netherlands, Andorra, Luxembourg and Australia, to name just a few countries and they are going to work in the UK, Germany, France and Spain to start with. For example, you might go to work on an aircraft destined for Asia. Your mentor has experience at working in France, Spain and the US. Finally, a big aim of the programme is to make contacts all over the world and you are encouraged and supported in doing this. As far as I am concerned, all this really means global...”

“PROGRESS has a very attractive structure. Not only do I get to work in my preferred field, I also have the added bonus of taking part in training modules to coach me on the job in areas that are difficult to master as a young engineer, as well as networking events. This is complemented by an on-site mentor with over 20 years of experience who monitors my progress.

PROGRESS is ideal for people who are motivated and are keen to accelerate their careers.”

Sebastian Hugel is working as Supply Chain Manager in the Customer Support department of Defence & Security in Germany

“PROGRESS offers participants a broad insight into all the business areas of EADS and helps to develop a network consisting of other trainees, younger and older EADS employees and managers throughout the world. I like the idea of staying in one position for a year as this allows people within my team to accept me as a serious team member with full responsibility.

It is important for me to move forward – as a person and for the team. The PROGRESS Programme supports this concept and provides various workshops and networking events during these 24 months. It also provides assistance with placements in different Business Units, Divisions or countries. My mentor became a “to-go-person” for me to discuss issues outside the usual reporting structure and I look forward to continuing meetings with him for another year after the programme has finished.”
